For those of you who’ve been with me for awhile, you know that we are skippers of traditional Thanksgiving. Last year, we struck out on a Western Caribbean cruise with my parents and grandfather and this year we’re headed to Disney World with my sister, brother-in-law, and my one-year old nephew!
Because we live in Florida, we try to stay away from the parks during high-traffic seasons, so when it comes to our skipping-Thanksgiving vacation, we’ll be hitting the parks the Sunday through Wednesday before Thanksgiving Thursday. We’ll be home for Thanksgiving Day, but we’ll be opting out of the traditional Turkey and usual fixins.
My sister and her family are also a military family (USMC) and it’s their first trip to Disney as a family <insert awws here>. We’re staying in a family suite at Disney’s newest resort, the Art of Animation, which opened last year.
We purchased our discounted Disney tickets, better known as Disney’s Armed Forces Salute at our local ITT offices on base, her at Quantico and us at MacDill AFB. You actually get a voucher for your real tickets that you have to pick up at guest services at which ever park you decide to visit first.
Between the two families, we’ve got three children to contend with and we want to keep things as simple as possible, so I reached out to Orlando Stroller Rentals for a double stroller for La Rubia (age 3) and El Chiquto (age 1) so that neither of us have to travel with extra gear.
FYI, Orlando Stroller Rentals offers a military families a $5 credit towards rentals! All you have to do is type in “military credit” in the “how did you hear about us” section on the reservation form. I’ll let you know how the process goes once we take them for an official spin! (pun intended)
As if it couldn’t get any more exciting, we’re also test driving Disney’s latest tech integration, MagicBands!
You can personalize Disney’s MagicBands for each person in your party by picking a color and avatar for their personal profile. These integrate with the My Disney Experience mobile app. Each band is supposed to link directly to your room reservations, park tickets, dining plans and reservations, and the FastPass+ service as well. According to the letter we received (see below), MagicBands are still in testing phase. I look forward to letting you all know how it goes!
I can’t wait until the weekend gets here! The antici…….pation is killing us!
What are you up to for Thanksgiving week? Anybody headed out on a vacation or out of town to visit family?
