Congratulations! You Just Won The Parent Lottery!

To My Very Loved Newborn Nephew,

Congratulations!  This is your lucky day!  You just won the parent lottery!  I know you haven’t had the chance to really process this exciting news and I imagine you’re a bit shell shocked right now given your rapid entry into the world.  Based on what I know, the phone is ringing off the hook…well, the ring tone is going crazy…I realize phones now don’t have a hook…don’t worry, I’ll explain that one later.

Your grandparents are on cloud-nine, your great grandpa is beside himself with joy…A BOY!  We haven’t had a boy on your mommy’s side of the family in ages!  I imagine that great grandpa…whom we call Papo, by the way, is rather insufferable at the moment.  He’s been waiting for you for a VERY long time.  Speaking of waiting for you, we have all been waiting for you, but none of us as eagerly as your mom and dad.

As I said, really did strike the jackpot when it comes to parents.  Your mama, my sister, is the best mama you could’ve ever asked for.  She’s been preparing for you for months.  From making sure you both stayed healthy, to decorating a fabulous nursery to welcome you home, she’s left no stone unturned.  Over the coming years, you are in for a real treat.  Your mama is one of the most loving, caring, strongest women I know.  At the same time, she’s the silliest, funnest (we’ll address grammar later), coolest mama a kid could ever wish for.  Oh, and did I mention she’s a great baker?  You and all of your friends are in for a real treat!  Make sure you send some to your cousins over here, one thing Titi Adri is not is a baker.  Just ask Uncle Mike.

Now your Daddy?  He’s so overwhelmed with love with you right now it oozed out over the phone.  Really.  He is so excited about getting to spend the rest of his life with you.  He’s already planning fun things for you to do, so keep your calendar clear, okay?  Your Daddy and I go all the way back to college, yes, Carolina, and yes, that’s where he’s planning on brainwashing you to go.  Don’t worry, your cousins will be there, too.  Well, I had the good fortune of being friends with your Daddy and I can’t think of a better person to teach you how to be a good man.  Your Daddy is one of the best men I have the privilege of knowing and I am so lucky to have him as my brother.

Are you feeling pretty lucky yet?  You totally should be.  The best part is the family that comes along with your mama and your daddy.  We’re all going to be right there, right behind them, helping them guide you towards being the very best you you can be.

We love you so very much.  And we can’t wait to meet you.  Welcome to the world!
